Event: Opening, Exhibition ‘Accumulation 04’ @ M.A.D.

April 6th 2024

︎︎︎ 🎟️ TICKETS 🎟️ ︎︎︎

“ACCUMULATION 04" collective exhibition at M.A.D. featuring ALBERTO BETTINETTI, AINA REA ALIOTTA, KASPAR LUDWIG.
and club night with NORIA LILT, MANUEL FISCHER, MAVICHAN, JABROME.

AC04 explores the relational dynamics between movement and stillness. It serves as a parenthesis in space and time, searching for a secret element within the void that lies between a frantic run and a nap.
How is it possible to perceive something as still that rotates or flows at very high speeds? What deception blinds our gaze? What dynamics exist between weight and immateriality? How can gravity be defeated? What visual deception traps our mind? It's all a matter of perspective; observing a plane in flight, it seems to travel slowly.
Through the exploration of the rare but possible coexistence between opposite states, the works on display converse with each other, living between two poles, attracting and repelling each other. They breathe and dance, oscillate unstably, evolve in search of balance.

Alberto Bettinetti (1967)
Visual artist and graphic designer, he primarily focuses their graphic activity in the musical sphere. His research in contemporary art focuses on lightness, fragility, states of equilibrium, and the lines of force generated by them. His investigation into devices/machines, another point of interest, materializes in dynamic and luminous indispositives that explore visual perception in its variation. The actions, signs, and effects of visual ambiguity that result from this are a manifesto of the actionable potential of utopian thought. In 2000, he founded the [zanzara] studio. In 2005, they created the experimental short film "FRAGILE" with a soundtrack by Apparat and Gianna Nannini. He participated in various live performances with the latter, and in 2009 created the sound installation "Fotocopiami la voce" for the exhibition with Emilio Prini at Galleria bunKerart, Milan. In 2009, he published the book "Stati D'anima" with Edoardo Nesi and Gianna Nannini for Bompiani. Since 2011, alongside individual research, he has collaborated with Federica Clerici on the artistic project FZ federica clerici + alberto bettinetti. Since 2014, he has been a co-founder of the artistic project SPAZIENNE.
Bettinetti is a lecturer in Visual Experimentation, Illustration, Experimental Graphics, and Visualization Techniques at the departments of Visual Arts and Graphic Design at NABA, Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti Milano, which he has been collaborating with since 1994.

Aina Rea Aliotta (1999)
After years in independent theater and collectives, they’ve focused their artistic studies on the body as raw material in video performances and workshops. Their performative practice combines movement and medial-self reflection in collaboration with other artists. The pieces focus on emotional states and social-political issues which are communicated through new media.

Kaspar Ludwig (1989)
Born in Nuremberg in 1989, but grew up in Italian-speaking Switzerland. He lived for several years in Carrara, Tuscany, where he obtained a Bachelor's degree in sculpture and a diploma in marble craftsmanship from the Tacca Institute. In Carrara he worked for about three years for several art studies where he deepens the processing of marble. In 2016 he moved to Basel where in 2018 he obtained his Master's degree. He still lives and works in Basel.

Noria Lilt
Noria Lilt (*1994, Fribourg, Switzerland) has been immersed in a musical and cultural environment
since her earliest years. Growing up in a musician family, she graduated as a Sound Artist from the
Bern University of the Arts (HKB) in 2021. Heavily influenced by dance music and rave culture thirsty for bass, breaks, and bleeps; Noria Lilt puts together a bursting mix of the most heterogeneous electronic inspirations. From clubs to art centers and other live scenes, her practice oscillates between djing, live, composition and production, audiovisual installations, and multichannel pieces. Her production and composition process tends towards acousmatic and experimental music, with a delicate and unique sound design.
TRNSTN RADIO co-founder, Kapitel Bollwerk resident DJ, SMEM coordinator: she is an important figure and an active member of the cultural, nightlife, and musical scenes of Switzerland. In all her facets, she presents powerful messages in a captivating hybrid universe.

Manuel Fisher
Through his productions, Zürich’ born Manuel Fischer makes breakbeat influenced house and techno music. But that title can only be applied loosely. The depth and breadth of influences which flow into his sound result in a productfull of undertones and subtle shades.
It’s an artistic ethos which the Zürich-based DJ and producer also applies to sets – blissfully careening from beat-less ambient textures to sugar-lacquered IDM with ease, to heavier darker jams, creating kinds of slow-burning, fizzy euphorias between 80 and 170 bpm. With the past in mind, he’s always trying to create the future with his music, which in 2024 he will present with his new long player „Exxodus“, which will be his own imprint Ozelot Records’ 10th outlet on the label.

MAVICHAN
Spanish DJ and music producer who has been living in Zurich since 2007. During the day, she teaches music, sits at the piano, and sings songs for children with her young students. In the evenings, she dedicates herself to electronic music, producing her own songs or exploring new music to create her sets. These sets are characterized by interesting twists, as she loves to blend different genres: house, breakbeat, bass, baile, dembow, techno, dub, drum & bass, hip-hop. Since 2020, she has been collaborating with monthly DJ workshops at Kokon held at the GDS.FM station, showing the new generations how to do beatmatching with vinyl.

Jabrome
Jabrome is a Dj/Producer duo from Locarno, co-founder of Fishnet Collective.
Since 2015 Jérôme and Gabriele have performed throughout Switzerland and abroad proposing a carefully balanced combination of Breakbeat, Electro and Techno, which has condensed over the years into various musical releases on labels such as Tiefdruckgebeat and Seven Scales Records, and ultimately the launch of Fishnet Records with their latest release: Carbon EP.
Jabrome are currently resident DJ's and music curators at the Magadino Art Department (M.A.D.) and carry out their sound and projects in parallel with the collective, maintaining a broad musical vision, purposely open to novelty and experimentation.

SPIN Alberto Bettinetti, 2013, performance, ca. 30minVisual dynamic rotation of luminous devices. On a glass surface that constitutes the field of action, small rotating, luminous, and fluorescent devices (spinning tops) are activated at different times through rapid manual rotation around the axis of symmetry. A fixed camera captures and transmits what happens. The perceptual ambiguity determined by the reduced brightness of the environment, in contrast to the light emitted by the devices, creates an effect of apparent suspension of circular and elliptical shapes that determine the program of the action. These shapes, generated by movement, filtered through prismatic or distorting lenses, reflected and multiplied by mirrors arranged at different angles, create visual dynamic effects that vary and amplify perception. The resulting images, captured directly, are not manipulated digitally in any way.

CURATO DALLA MAMMA Kaspar Ludwig, 2022, installation, sculptureStarting from a personal anecdote, the artist reflects on the role of the mother within the artistic process and, more generally, in determining a moral compass.
"I found myself at the opening of a friend's exhibition, it was late and I was one of the last visitors inside the museum, most people were already busy with chatter and the buffet. I wandered through the exhibition and arrived in a room where my friend had created objects of tar molded in gravel that spread throughout the entire room. Two people passed by me chatting peacefully; the museum director and a woman by his side whom I had never seen before. The woman kneels down and sinks her hand up to the wrist into one of these objects! The director looks at her, paling, and in a stuttering voice says, 'Y-you c-can't d-do t-that!' The woman turns around with a candid and sweet smile and says, 'Don't worry! I'm his mother.' The director is left speechless, mouth agape. I burst out laughing and flee from the exhibition.
This anecdote made me reflect on the relationships and balances of the art world and how they can all be shattered in a second by a stronger and more ancient authority, the ultimate authority, Mom! In fact, everything you are, were, have, will have, do, will do, is as if by extension under the jurisdiction of Mom."

ECDYSIS Aina Rea Aliotta, 2023, video performance, 9’20”
Unlearning: suppressing, enduring, relearning. A body, in its raw materiality, sheds its skin and makes visible specific mental states of the infinite cycle of unlearning. The observer/visitor is invited to a conscious confrontation with their own behavioral patterns and the critique of their own truth. This condition can touch every aspect, facet, and nuance of life. In a time when power constructs and their normativity are increasingly scrutinized at their root, the body contributes to the creation of new knowledge by becoming an expression of entities that are not fixed and stable, but primarily relational, anti-identity mutating and nomadic, irregular subjects, metamorphic.
